Meet Todd Waites. Former victim of bullying and ridicule
At 14 years of age Todd lost his arm and entire shoulder to bone cancer followed by 18 months of rigorous chemotherapy, which made him also temporarily lose his hair. He knows what it is like to be different. Knows what it is like to be bullied, ridiculed, and made to feel less. Knows what it is like to have seemingly shattered dreams.
Meet Todd Waites. Overcomer. Rockstar.
Realized the power of believing in himself rather than allowing others determine what he is capable of. He chased his life-long dream of becoming a keyboard player. Through hard work and dedication, the dream came true. Todd toured the U.S. and beyond for years playing rock concerts with world-class musicians. One of many highlights is when he had the honor of giving David Bryan (keyboardist for Bon Jovi) pointers on playing when David injured his finger. Another would be in mid-2019 when he recorded 2 songs with legendary singer Jeff Scott Soto, former vocalist for Journey from 2006-2007. (Listen to one here). Featured in magazines, appearing on radio, TV and many recordings, he is also a major character in a motivational book. Respected for his awesome talent. Loved for his positive attitude. In 2012 Todd left the touring band scene to instead make a difference in K-12 schools and events. “True Rockstars Don’t Hate” is an amazing, fun, and inspirational assembly program that has been in hundreds of schools and in front tens of thousands of students nationwide plus 3 other countries. From kids of celebrities, to poverty stricken areas, to schools that have had school shootings...the impact has been greater than ever imagined. Kids are listening. Lives are changing. Meet "True Rockstars Don't Hate" K-12 School Assemblies.
Bringing a keyboard to every event, Todd "sprinkles" music into his presentation as he talks about the valuable lessons he learned in his own journey of overcoming obstacles, achieving and maintaining a positive self-image, the effects of bullying short and long term, the power of being kind, and that being “different” is AWESOME, and that EVERYONE happens to be different. This message is shared with personal stories incorporating comedy, inspiration, and sometimes even a few tears. But make no mistake...the assemblies are not a downer but very much the opposite. They are upbeat, positive, and a blast!!
